Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
Long before opening Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Dr. Jennifer Lynn Bayer experienced orthopedic care from the patient’s side. While playing Division I college basketball, she broke her ankle during her senior season and needed surgery. She had already been accepted into medical school, but the experience helped give her a clear direction. She wanted to become an orthopedic surgeon and help other people return to the activities that mattered to them.
After working within a larger medical group, Dr. Bayer decided to build her own practice around a more personal approach to care. She wanted fewer administrative barriers between the physician and patient, along with enough time to listen carefully, examine each problem, and explain what was happening. Rather than making people feel rushed through an appointment, she works to help them understand their diagnosis, treatment options, and what comes next.
Her approach includes both surgical and nonsurgical orthopedic care. Patients are not pushed toward a single answer simply because it is available. Dr. Bayer considers the individual’s history, condition, and goals, then discusses the available options and the advantages and limitations of each. That straightforward communication helps people take part in decisions about their own care while feeling supported by someone who understands the concern behind the injury or pain.
Advanced Physical Therapy & Sports Performance is part of the practice and is led by Joseph Kountz, PT, DPT. Like Dr. Bayer, Joseph found his professional direction after experiencing a significant sports injury and going through rehabilitation himself. He takes time to learn how a patient’s pain began, what affects it, and what that person needs to regain strength, mobility, and function. His focus is on giving patients practical tools and appropriate guidance so they can continue making progress beyond each appointment.
For patients who need both orthopedic treatment and rehabilitation, having those services connected supports clearer communication throughout the recovery process. Whether someone hopes to return to competition, work, swimming, hiking, climbing stairs, or everyday movement, Dr. Bayer remains focused on helping that person move forward. The result is a practice built around careful listening, clear explanations, honest options, and care that treats each patient as an individual rather than a number.

Dr Bayer is fantastic! She is not only a knowledgeable doctor but she took the time to make sure I understood exactly what was going on with my knee and the different treatment options and what they meant. Throughout my issues she moved fast when needed, leveraged her practice partners at the hospital to ensure everything went well there, and continues to treat through the final outcome in a way I feel like I’m getting my questions answered and she listens to all my concerns and questions. Highly recommended for knowledge, skills and bedside manner!
