Core Crown Point
When Kelly Walden was working downtown in Chicago, Pilates changed the way she thought about exercise. It was the first movement practice she connected with because of how it made her feel, not because of how she wanted to look. She felt better and more connected to her body. At the same time, she saw how hard it could be for many people to access that kind of instruction, and she wanted to create something that felt more attainable without losing the quality that made Pilates meaningful in the first place.
That experience helped shape Core Crown Point, located inside the former Lake County Courthouse in the Crown Point Courthouse Square Historic District. Kelly wanted a studio where people could be guided by well-trained instructors, feel comfortable walking in, and find movement that met them where they were. The foundation is Reformer Pilates, with classes that also include strength work, barre, yoga, cycling, dance, and other forms of movement rooted in the same mind-body approach.
A strong emphasis on education runs through the studio. Kelly cares about instructors understanding the body, knowing how to modify movement, and being able to support people with different experience levels. That matters for someone trying Pilates for the first time, but it also matters for someone who wants to keep growing and be challenged in a thoughtful way.
The atmosphere is a big part of what people appreciate. Core Crown Point does not feel like a place where people need to arrive already confident or experienced. People are encouraged to work at their own pace, ask for help when they need it, and build confidence over time. The instruction is supportive while still giving people room to challenge themselves, and the environment feels welcoming in a natural way.
Kelly has also encouraged a broader sense of community around the studio, from wellness-focused gatherings to outreach efforts that give instructors and members a way to connect beyond the workout itself. People come in for movement, but many also find connection, consistency, and a reason to keep showing up.
Core Crown Point reflects Kelly’s belief that movement has a place in every stage of life. It is a steady, supportive studio for people who want to feel stronger, feel better, and be treated with care from the moment they walk through the door.

I really love this Pilates studio. Everyone is welcoming and kind, and you never feel judged or out of place, no matter your level. The instructors are super supportive and explain things in a way that actually makes you feel confident instead of overwhelmed. The vibe is positive and encouraging, and I always leave class feeling stronger, refreshed, and in a better mood than when I walked in. It’s one of those places that just feels good to be at. Highly recommend. 💛
