Renagado Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
Long before opening his own school, Patrick Robinson had already spent decades studying, teaching, and competing in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His interest in martial arts began in his early teens, and he was introduced to Brazilian jiu-jitsu in the early 1990s, when the style was still unfamiliar to many people. He sought out seminars, trained with accomplished practitioners, and eventually began instructing small groups and private students himself. After years of teaching through other facilities, a change in how his long-running program was structured gave Patrick the push to establish Renagado Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
Patrick is a fourth-degree Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with extensive experience as both an instructor and competitor, but his approach is about more than demonstrating techniques. He emphasizes concepts, problem-solving, and game planning, helping students recognize their strengths and understand why something works. He also pays attention to individual goals, giving people guidance that fits where they are rather than expecting everyone to progress in exactly the same way.
That approach can make the first experience less intimidating for someone who has always been curious about jiu-jitsu. You do not need to arrive young, athletic, experienced, or already in shape. Some students are interested in competition, while others come for fitness, self-defense, the mental challenge, or simply the enjoyment of developing a new skill. Patrick understands that adults may also be working around old injuries or physical limitations, and training can be adjusted accordingly.
The atmosphere matters just as much as the instruction. Patrick describes the philosophy at Renagado as “no masters, only mentors.” More advanced students help those who are newer, questions are welcome, and everyone is encouraged to contribute to the progress of the people around them. The result is a place where training can be challenging and serious without becoming intimidating or driven by ego.
Patrick brings patience, humor, and genuine enthusiasm to what he does. Whether someone is stepping onto the mats for the first time or has trained for years, Renagado gives them a place to challenge themselves, build confidence, and become part of a group that wants to see them succeed.

I’ve been training with Renegado BJJ for over 11 years now. The instructor Patrick is very skilled, knowledgeable, & genuinely invested in helping students improve, regardless of skill level. The gym is very welcoming, regardless of your level of experience, or prior jiujitsu knowledge.
The curriculum is well structured, covering everything from basic fundamentals to advanced techniques & concepts. The facilities are clean and modern with changing rooms & everything needed to provide for a fun, safe training environment.
The jiujitsu community is incredible, everyone is very supportive and encouraging, which makes it a great place to learn, grow, and make new friends. Whether you’re interested in competition, self-defense, or just enjoying the journey with other hobbyists & jiujitsu enthusiasts, this is definitely the place to be!
