A visit to skinVIP medspa starts with getting to know the person. Kristin Tortoriello asks what brought someone in, what they would like to improve, and what may be happening in everyday life that could be affecting their skin. She explains treatments, answers questions, and wants people to feel comfortable talking with her from the beginning. Kristin describes herself as an open book and someone who naturally wants to encourage the people around her, an approach that carries into the way she works with clients.

Kristin’s interest in skincare began with seeing how deeply acne could affect someone’s confidence, especially during the teenage years. Watching friends struggle with their skin, then seeing the difference effective care could make in their lives, helped shape a career centered on helping people feel better about themselves. She became a licensed medical esthetician in 2009 and gained experience in both plastic surgery settings and holistic spas before opening skinVIP medspa. She co-owns the practice with her husband, Dr. Paul Tortoriello, a board-certified physician who provides injectable treatments.

For Kristin, treating acne in particular can mean paying attention to much more than the skin itself. She understands that teenagers dealing with acne may become self-conscious, withdraw from friends, or stop doing things they once enjoyed. Conversations can therefore include school, sports, friendships, interests, family life, and simply how someone is doing. Her interest in working with young people was also part of the reason she chose a location directly across from Lake Central High School. Kristin wants younger clients to feel that they have someone in their corner while they work through a concern that can affect far more than their appearance.

Her work extends to people of many ages, with concerns including redness and rosacea, pigmentation, texture, acne, and signs of aging. Education remains an important part of how Kristin approaches that work. She has described teaching as one of her first loves, and continuing education has remained a priority as skincare treatments, products, and technology have changed throughout her career. Rather than taking the same approach with everyone, she wants to understand the person, their skin, and what they are hoping to accomplish before making recommendations.

The atmosphere at skinVIP medspa reflects that same personal approach. Kristin wanted to create a place where people could slow down, relax, speak openly, and feel cared for rather than hurried through an appointment. She describes the goal as a home-away-from-home environment and has intentionally made the practice family-friendly. As a parent herself, she understands that someone may want to take care of themselves without always being able to arrange childcare, so children are welcome too.

Helping people extends well beyond skincare for Kristin. She has spent many years volunteering through her church and working with young people, and giving back remains an important part of what she wants the business to represent. Causes involving youth, mental health, food insecurity, and domestic violence are especially meaningful to her. She speaks about community involvement with the same enthusiasm she brings to skincare and sees serving others as part of the values that shaped her long before she became a business owner.

Trust ties much of the experience together. Kristin values relationships that continue over the years and wants people to feel comfortable coming to her with questions, concerns, or simply a need to talk. For her, caring for someone’s skin is often connected to something larger: helping that person feel heard, supported, and more confident in themselves.

I brought my daughter Anya to skinVIP MedSpa for a facial, and I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience — especially about Kristin. From the moment we walked in, Kristin made Anya feel completely at ease. She was warm, attentive, and took the time to really understand Anya’s skin before getting started. You could tell immediately that she genuinely loves what she does and cares about her clients.

Anya left with glowing skin and a huge smile, which honestly says it all. As a mom, there’s something really special about finding a provider you trust with your kid — and Kristin has absolutely earned that trust. She’s knowledgeable, gentle, and has such a lovely way about her.

skinVIP MedSpa itself is a beautiful, clean, and relaxing space — exactly what you want in a med spa environment. We will absolutely be back, and I would recommend Kristin and this team to anyone without hesitation.
